There’s No Spring in NYC

image One day, it’s 51 degrees. The next, 85 degrees. After that, 55. It’s seriously driving me up the wall. In the past 2 weeks, I had a huge mold allergy outbreak on my upper body, and I’m still waiting for the stains on my skin to go away. Yesterday, I spent all day (and all night- that’s how I know I’m actually ill) sleeping, moaning from a day-and-a-half-long headache, nausea, and stuffed up nose from pollen allergies. It’s much better today (I was able to get up in the morning, prepare myself coffee and Russian pastry from a bag, and sit here browsing the internets), but I’m still sneezing, and my eyes water up for no reason.  How is it that there’s no spring, but pollen wrecks havoc anyhow?! I never know if I should step out in the morning with shorts on, or a jacket… (And very often, am dressed very inappropriately for the weather.)

I’ve managed to move last month, and I love my new apartment, though the amount of money I have spent in the past month trying to furnish the said space is making my credit card company happy and my bank account very unhappy. But it feels really nice to have a place that I can call a home, and know that I will be here for a while. A roommate moved in few days ago, but she will only be here for 3 months. Then hopefully I won’t have to worry about roommates (my boyfriend or my sister might be around, but totally different from a random person you don’t know!).

Speaking of money, I made a purchase before I moved that I’m totally in love with: Fujifilm Instax Share Smartphone Portable Printer SP-1!

Basically, it’s a Polaroid printer (prints on a standard Mini-Polaroid Film) that hooks up to your Smartphone, and prints whatever photo or picture you have on your phone! Now all my instagrams and friends/family shots have a portable printer. :) I already made a birthday gift for my mom using shots I printed, put up on little display frames for Polaroid prints. Super tiny so it was easy for her to take home, and convenient to display in small spaces! I’ve always been pining for a Polaroid camera, but wasn’t so sure about the quality of the camera and its photos, so I was ecstatic when I found best of both worlds: My smartphone’s camera (which takes pretty good photos), and a Polaroid printer that’s portable. I can even print photos taken with my DSLR for added higher quality. Figuring out what washes out and what comes out darkly is still a work-in-progress, but given I waste a lot of film printing things out for everything, I figure I’ll find out the trick soon.
image image Other than that, I’ve joined a gym now that I’m starting to settle down (I’d like to lose 5~10lbs in the next few months, as well as prepare for a 5K), and finding that I actually enjoy going to the gym and watching random videos while churning out miles on the elliptical. (And they give me Tootsie Rolls!) I’m also starting to cook, too, when I’m not too exhausted, and now that I’ve gotten an upgraded slow cooker (I broke the basin for the last one… ;___; don’t ask; I was heartbroken), I hope to cut down my eating-out even more (especially for lunch). This weekend, I wanted to make Chili… But the butcher is closed on Sunday, so I guess I have to make a trek to the closest supermarket and buy lower quality meat… :( But hopefully all the spices will make it taste fine!
